Raffy Calicdan
RAFFY CALICDAN is a singer-songwriter from Baguio City who has been in the music industry for almost two decades. His big break started when he became a member & vocal arranger for an all-male group called Take off, one of X-Factor Philippines’ finalists in 2012.
In 2018, he released the song “Ikaw Pa Rin” and became a theme song for the movie ‘Nakalimutan Ko Nang Kalimutan Ka’. The same song was also nominated in Wish FM 107.5 Music Awards’ Best Contemporary Folk Song in 2018 and currently has more than four million streams on Spotify.
Fast-forward to 2019, he is now pursuing his solo career and will be releasing more of his original works as a signed artist of one of the top independent music labels in the Philippines, PolyEast Records.
After the commercial success of “Ikaw Pa Rin”, here comes the new single “dear EX” which will serve as Raffy’s first offering with his label, Polyeast Records. The new single is a collaboration with his friends and fellow musicians, Josh David (co-arranger) and Daryll Ong.
Raffy’s melodic lines with poetic sincerity, he considers the new single his most personal composition yet. “I wrote the song when I was in Bahrain working as a band vocalist in 2018. I thought of writing the song and express my sentiments over my ex. I can say that I have already moved on from that past relationship, which was three years ago, but I’m still thankful for the memories that led me to write this song ” Raffy shared.
“The song is about a guy showing weakness, struggle of moving on from his ex because he loved her deeply. May karapatan din ang mga kalalakihan na magpakita ng kanilang kahinaan at hindi kami parati ang ‘strong’ sa isang relationship.”
Raffy said he hopes the song will speak to people going through a similar experience and help them get through past relationships.
As profoundly moving songwriter, Raffy has also penned songs for Sarah Geronimo (“Handang Umibig Muli”); he became a finalist in 2013 PhilPop Music Festival Songwriting Competition for the song “Space”, and wrote several theme songs for GMA’s drama series.
